Strategic or business planning can be an important tool for focusing the efforts of an organization and fostering communication between leaders, staff and important stakeholder groups. Clarity of mission and goals, and linkages between basic public services can be assisted through good strategic planning. Strategic planning can also guide an organization’s management system, including its work planning and performance measurement methodologies. Management Partners offers a variety of approaches to strategic planning that can be tailored to fit your organization. Our approaches range from a full-blown, start-from-scratch, beginning, involving all stakeholder groups in facilitated mission and goal development, to a streamlined process that builds on work already accomplished.
In the area of business planning, Management Partners assisted the San Mateo County Library in California which functions as a joint powers authority made up of the county and 20 cities. We completed an analysis of governance alternatives and identified solutions to numerous disagreements among member agencies. After extensive fact-finding, analysis and negotiations, Management Partners and the Library developed amendments to the JPA that were unanimously approved by the member agencies.
The City of Montgomery, Ohio enlisted the assistance of Management Partners in the development of a strategic plan. An eight-month strategic planning process, which included retreat and leadership workshops facilitated by Management Partners, resulted in the development of a future vision for the City and community. As part of that work, Management Partners prepared an implementation action plan to identify steps necessary to achieve the City’s goals. The Louisville Metro Health Department undertook a strategic planning process to identify and articulate short- and long-term goals for the department, and retained Management Partners to facilitate that process.
